RELEASE: Gottheimer Applauds New Jersey’s Step to Begin $500 Back-To-Work Bonuses
This Initiative, Proposed by Gottheimer in June, Will Help Businesses Fill Jobs & Help NJ Residents Rejoin the Workforce
North Jersey, September 28, 2021
NORTH JERSEY — Today, September 27, 2021, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) released a statement applauding the State of New Jersey’s plan to distribute new $500 back-to-work bonuses, utilizing a portion of the federal COVID-19 relief dollars New Jersey received from the American Rescue Plan. This initiative, which Gottheimer originally proposed back in June, will create a one-time $500 incentive for residents who are newly hired, which will be included in their first paycheck. Candidates must be New Jersey residents and work full-time with at least 32 hours a week.
“It’s absolutely essential to connect unemployed Jersey workers with businesses in need and encourage workers to return,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) today. “This new initiative is a fantastic step to help both our unemployed residents and local businesses, and I’m glad to see that the Garden State is working to implement a back-to-work incentive program just like the one I proposed in June. This program will utilize federal investment we passed in Congress from the American Rescue Plan. As we continue the transition from pandemic life to normal life, it’s essential that we help businesses find employees and help Jersey residents get back to work. We must get our state fully back on track. ”
The U.S. Treasury has confirmed that back-to-work incentives are eligible expenses for State COVID-19 relief funds.
“There are financial and logistical challenges stemming from the pandemic. From childcare, to transportation, to ongoing health issues, school, and taking care of family members — I think we are all trying to figure everything out as quickly as possible. I believe this $500 back-to-work bonus will help in that transition,” said Gottheimer.
