As New Jersey begins Phase 2 of reopening, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) announced $7 million in federal bipartisan CARES Act rescue and relief resources will head to elementary and secondary schools in the Fifth District.

This investment will help cover the significant financial losses many North Jersey schools have suffered and help them provide quality education through remote learning, so they can focus on serving their students and developing plans to reopen.

The investment received from the CARES Act is a part of the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER Fund). This federal investment will go to more than 70 school districts in the Fifth District, with the total allocation of $7,033,750 going to Bergen, Warren, Sussex, and Passaic Counties combined.

“One of my top priorities throughout this crisis has been working to ensure that the Fifth District has the resources it needs to combat the impacts this pandemic is having on our community, especially on our education systems and our families,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “The bipartisan CARES Act rescue and relief package, which passed Congress and was signed into law, includes hundreds of millions of federal dollars and resources for which each of our counties in New Jersey’s Fifth District qualify — including dollars that are continuing to head out the door to help our communities.”
