Gottheimer Applauds Historic “StayNJ” Property Tax Cuts for Seniors
Tax Relief Will Help Keep Residents and Families in Jersey. “StayNJ” Led by Speaker Coughlin, Senate President Scutari, Sen. Lagana, Asms. Tully and Swain.
NORTH JERSEY — Today, July 7, 2023, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) applauded the New Jersey Legislature and Governor Phil Murphy for passing and signing into law the “StayNJ” tax credit program to significantly lower property taxes for New Jersey’s seniors.
“StayNJ” legislation was led in the New Jersey Legislature by Speaker Craig Coughlin, Senate President Nick Scutari, Senators Joe Lagana, Vin Gopal and Assemblymembers Chris Tully, Lisa Swain, Louis Greenwald, Roy Freiman, Paul D. Moriarty, Benjie E. Wimberly, and Yvonne Lopez.
“Landmark ‘StayNJ’ tax cuts would not have happened without the leadership and tireless work of Speaker Craig Coughlin, Senate President Nick Scutari, Governor Phil Murphy, and my North Jersey partners in the state legislature Senators Joe Lagana, Gordon Johnson, and Paul Sarlo and Assemblymembers Chris Tully, Lisa Swain, Shama Haider, Ellen Park, Gary Schaer, and Clinton Calabrese. We should be encouraging those who have helped make our Jersey communities great to stay here. We need to do everything we can to cut our seniors’ taxes, help them afford their retirement, and stay close to their friends and families,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer.
Gottheimer continued, “In Washington, I’ve fought to claw more of our federal tax dollars back to Jersey from Washington and away from the Moocher States to help take a major financial weight off our state, county, and local budgets, and help lower the property tax burden on our families. These federal dollars improve our roads and bridges, our water infrastructure, transit, and medical services, and allow us to invest in our veterans, law enforcement, firefighters, and EMTs. We are now up 357 percent in what we’ve clawed back from Washington and the Moocher States since I took office.”
