WASHINGTON – This week, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) voted to support the bipartisan LEGION Act, which passed the House unanimously by voice vote. Gottheimer cosponsored H.R.1641, the House version of the LEGION Act — also known as the “Let Everyone Get Involved in Opportunities for National Service Act” — which expands membership in the American Legion for all honorably discharged veterans who have served World War II.

“Our veterans are heroes and they deserve our utmost respect for their service to our country. No matter how or where they served, they should be able to enjoy the benefits of  membership in the American Legion,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “I’m glad the bipartisan LEGION Act has now passed both the House and Senate, and I urge the President signs this into law quickly.”

“Passage of the LEGION Act is a victory for veterans who until now have not had their service to our nation fully recognized,” said American Legion National Commander Brett Reistad. “These veterans and their family members can now enjoy all the benefits of their service which they so richly deserve. On behalf of The American Legion, I want to thank all Members of Congress who supported this effort.”
