Monday, March 19th, Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) hosted Faith Leaders from across the Fifth Congressional District for a breakfast at Ramapo College to discuss issues facing their communities and how to come together to address them and improve overall communication between faiths.

The group discussed efforts to combat the opioid crisis, fight bias and discrimination, and ensure towns and non-profits have the resources they need to protect our schools, community centers, and places of worship. Gottheimer emphasized our country’s proud history of tolerance and religious freedom, and the need for Americans from all backgrounds to focus on what unites us, rather than what divides us.

Gottheimer has worked closely with counties, towns, and nonprofits to help apply for and win competitive federal security grants, clawing back our federal tax dollars to fight homegrown terror. In June, Josh was proud to announce nearly $4 million from the Department of Homeland Security’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program to help protect our families and our communities from sickening hate-driven crimes.

“This week’s roundtable showcased North Jersey’s rich diversity and strong commitment to upholding our core values–our Jersey values,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “I am grateful to the religious and community leaders who joined me to share their thoughts, suggestions, concerns, and ideas about critical issues facing our state and country. I look forward to coming together regularly.”
