Gottheimer Discusses Protecting Social Security and Medicare at Senior Center in Hackensack
Gottheimer Talks Supports Multicultural Seniors for Hispanic Heritage Month
Yesterday, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer spoke to the residents of the Americas Unidas Multicultural Senior Center in Hackensack.
“Earlier this year, a national survey found that it costs over $5,700 a month to live in Bergen County in an assisted living facility, and the average monthly Social Security payment in New Jersey is $1,553. Those numbers don’t add up.” said Congressman Gottheimer (NJ-5). “I have worked tirelessly in Congress to help seniors and veterans save their hard-earned money for retirement and protect Social Security and Medicare, so they can afford to stay here and enjoy their lives and time with family here in New Jersey.”
In May, Gottheimer announced his Three-Part Senior Security Strategy to cut Social Security taxes on seniors and eliminate double taxation, stop the government from withholding seniors’ Social Security benefits if they are behind on debt payments, and doing all we can to combat the latest Medicare scams.
Since taking office, Gottheimer has helped seniors in the Fifth District recover more than $200,000 from Social Security when they have had issues.
