Academy Brings New Opportunities for Young Artists and Helps Revitalize Local Economy

On Monday, July 30, 2018, Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) joined Sussex County business leaders, local elected officials, and leaders of the historic Newton Theatre for the official opening of the Newton Theatre Arts Academy. The Academy, located across the street from the Newton Theatre in the heart of Sussex County, will provide acting classes, production workshops, choreography, visual arts, and more to young Sussex County artists and performers.

“I was thrilled to help cut the ribbon on the newest investment in the Sussex County community—the Newton Theatre Arts Academy, which will provide our young performers the opportunity to hone their craft and build self-confidence directly across the street from Sussex County’s highest-profile stage. The arts are critical for people of all ages, but particularly for our young people, who are just beginning he process of figuring out who they are and who they want to be,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “Thank you to the business leaders, local elected officials, volunteers, and Newton Theatre leaders who came together to make the Newton Theatre Arts Academy possible. Along with projects like Sussex County Community College’s new McGuire Campus Technical Education Center, which will bring 300 students to downtown Newton daily, and ThorLabs’ imminent expansion on the east edge of the downtown Newton area, the Arts Academy will help revitalize the local Sussex County economy, bringing critical new jobs, opportunities, and growth to the area. I am here to help in any way I can.”
