Gottheimer Briefed by Intelligence Directors on Russian Cyberattacks

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) released the following statement after attending a bipartisan classified briefing with James Clapper, the Director of National Intelligence; James Comey, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; John Brennan, Director of the Central Intelligence Agency; and Admiral Michael Rogers, Director of the National Security Agency, on Russia’s recent attacks on the United States:

“I’m deeply troubled by Russia’s cyberattacks on the United States. We must launch a thorough and independent investigation into these hacks, not to relitigate the recent election, but to ensure that we prevent Russia and others from launching another attack against the United States of America. The United States will not tolerate cyberattacks on our homeland. As members of both parties have called for, we must make a clear-headed assessment of what happened to improve our national security and protect our country. That is why I’m cosponsoring the Protecting Our Democracy Act, which would set up an independent bipartisan commission modeled after the 9/11 Commission to investigate Russia’s attack on the United States.”
