TENAFLY, NJ — Today, September 22, 2025, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) joined Temple Sinai of Bergen County in Tenafly to discuss the importance of the Jewish community amid increasing antisemitism across the country and in New Jersey.
Gottheimer joins the congregation following the synagogue’s Israeli flag being burned in an act of antisemitic vandalism last week. Gottheimer met with Rabbi Jordan Millstein, spoke to the congregation, and emphasized the importance of standing together in the face of rising antisemitism and hate.
“With so much hate and antisemitism across our country and our state, it’s more important now than ever before that we remain united as one community to support each other — in the same spirit that this congregation does each day, and in the same way we are joined together today,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5), the only Jewish member of the New Jersey Congressional delegation. “Last week, this synagogue’s Israeli flag was burned — an act of antisemitic vandalism that was vile and has no place in our community, state, or country. And, it’s rightly being investigated as a hate crime. Families across Jersey — no matter their faith — should have the right to worship freely and safely.”
Gottheimer was joined by Bergen County Commissioner Germaine Ortiz, Bergen County Commissioner Mary Amoroso, Bergen County Commissioner Tom Sullivan, Tenafly Mayor Mark Zinna, Tenafly Councilwoman Julie O’Connor, Tenafly Councilwoman Lauren Dayton, Englewood Councilwoman Dr. Lisa Wisotsky, Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey CEO Jason Shames, Temple Sinai Senior Rabbi Jordan Millstein, Temple Sinai Cantor Nitza Shamah, Temple Sinai Executive Director Jocelyn Inglis, and Temple Sinai President Jill Horbacewicz.
