Last week, the Problem Solvers Caucus announced its support for the bipartisan FIRST STEP Act, H.R. 5682. In response to Act’s passage, Congressmen Tom Reed (NY-23) and Josh Gottheimer (NJ-05), the Co-Chairs of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, released the following statement:

“The bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus is the first stop for common sense solutions in the House, and we are proud that our public support helped get this bill across the finish line. While we recognize that it’s not a total solution to reforming our criminal justice system, the FIRST STEP Act is a step in the right direction. The bill saves taxpayers money, improves our prisons and betters our communities. As a caucus, we seek to find common ground on issues that impact Americans every day, and prison reform is something Republicans and Democrats can agree on.”
