SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ — U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) celebrated Senior Day at the New Jersey State Fair and presented a flag flown over the United States Capitol to Sussex County’s “Senior of the Year” Annete Grieco, for her life of service to our community.

Across the fairgrounds, Gottheimer also greeted families, thanked veterans and active duty service members, toured the 4-H livestock exhibits and met with youth leaders, visited with local veteran organizations, and stopped by the local Rotary food concessions.

Gottheimer also hosted a Farm Bill roundtable with Bergen, Sussex, and Warren County farmers and local agriculture industry officials to discuss their legislative priorities.

Gottheimer highlighted “Sussex County Senior of the Year” Annete Grieco’s dedicated service and leadership to our community, to the Hopatcong Senior Center, and to those in need. A Sussex County resident for 40 years, Annete helps families that are recovering from difficult times and has raised money and delivered food to a local family whose mother was diagnosed with a life-threatening disease. She has also organized countless fundraisers and events including the Harvest Festival, Family Festival, & Square Dancing in the Park. Annete is a prized member of the Hopatcong Seniors Inc., the Golden Lunch Bunch at the Hopatcong Senior Center (where she leads an exercise group), and is a member of the Hopatcong Woman’s Club. Annete even travels to the Sparta food pantry every week to collect food and non-perishable items for those in need.

“There is no greater responsibility than that we owe to those who have given so much to us. Sussex County seniors and volunteers make invaluable contributions to our North Jersey community, and I’m proud to be able to celebrate and honor Annete Grieco in particular. Through her leadership, service, dedication, and kindness, Annette Grieco exemplifies Sussex County at its finest,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “The Sussex County Fair is one of my favorite New Jersey traditions and I’m glad to be able to visit with so many Fifth District residents and seniors here today.”
