Fifth District Clawing Back 56% More Federal Dollars Since Gottheimer Took Office

GLEN ROCK, NJ – Today, August 21, 2019, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) announced more than $1 million dollars clawed back to remediate contamination at Lake Rutherford in Sussex County through the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Lake Rutherford Water Improvements Project will install water line from Lake Rutherford to the existing Borough raw water line, thereby decreasing the amount of contamination experienced in the water treatment plant. Sussex Borough has contributed $200,000 of their own funds and receive state funding from the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant for $400,000.

“Clean water is absolutely critical for the health and safety of our family and our community and I am proud to fight for these dollars coming back into the District for Lake Rutherford Improvement Project,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “I will continue to work with our tremendous mayors, councils, and first responders to claw these resources back to Jersey to keep our communities safe and lower our property taxes.”

In May, Gottheimer stood with local elected officials and law enforcement in Oradell, in front of equipment acquired through federal grants, Gottheimer highlighted town successes across Bergen, Sussex, Passaic, and Warren Counties, particularly with the Law Enforcement Support Office (LESO) excess equipment program, the GSA program, and FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG).

In particular, the Fifth District has clawed back 384% more LESO grants since 2016, totaling a $3.77 million increase since Gottheimer took office – saving tax payers money the town would have otherwise had to spend on equipment.
