RELEASE: Gottheimer-backed Bipartisan Resolution Passes to Condemn Support of Terrorist Organizations on College Campuses
Rise of pro-Hamas protests creates unsafe atmosphere on college campuses for Jewish students
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Last night, Thursday, November 2, 2023, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) helped pass a bipartisan resolution in the House, H. Res. 798, to condemn the support of Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorist organizations at universities. This backing of terrorist organizations led to the creation of a hostile environment for Jewish students, faculty, and staff across the nation. The resolution, introduced by Rep. Burgess Owens (UT-4), passed 396 to 23.
“Across our nation, universities are failing Jewish students and allowing antisemitic protests to intimidate them and threaten their lives and safety. University presidents and administrators have a responsibility to protect all students, including Jewish students, and forcefully condemn Hamas terror and other foreign terrorist organizations. There is no room for hate of any kind — including racism, Islamophobia, or antisemitism — at American colleges,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5).
Hamas and Hezbollah are foreign terrorist organizations, as designated by the United States government.
Gottheimer recently wrote to George Washington University President Ellen Granberg, imploring her to take immediate disciplinary action against those who projected antisemitic messages on campus buildings celebrating Hamas’ brutal murders and kidnappings of innocent civilians, including Americans.
