WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Thursday, December 26, 2024, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-05) released the following statement in response to the MTA’s recent decision to no longer pursue surge pricing as part of the Congestion Tax. This would have allowed the MTA to charge commuters an extra 25% Uber-style “surge pricing” on any day they want to.

Gottheimer has fought against New York’s surge pricing scheme for nearly a year

“New York thought they could sneak through another way to whack hardworking families with its Congestion Tax cash-grab but got caught with their hand in the tax jar again. It’s time for the MTA to stop treating Jersey and New York drivers like their personal piggy bank. Thanks to the public outcry, we helped keep a lump of coal out of commuters’ stockings.”
