PATERSON, NJ — U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) celebrated the grand reopening of Hinchliffe Fields — one of the last of the Negro leagues ballparks still standing. The stadium, which has been abandoned since 1977, just finished a 10-year reconstruction and restoration effort. It will now be home to the New Jersey Jackals.
“It’s an honor to celebrate the grand reopening of the historic Hinchliffe Stadium today. By restoring and preserving this great stadium, we celebrate Black history, culture, the countless contributions Black-Americans have made to New Jersey, and remind our nation that we must all work together toward a more equal and just society,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) “Paterson and the Jersey community now have an incredible resource to boost local businesses, support our youth, and remind everyone just how much New Jersey has to offer.”
Gottheimer was joined by local, state, and federal officials, celebrities, New Jersey activists, and families.
