RELEASE: Gottheimer Claws Back More Than $4.9 Million in Nonprofit Security Grants
Record number of grants, securing 34 religious institutions, including houses of worship, schools, and community centers, across North Jersey
NORTH JERSEY — Today, Friday, August 30, 2024, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) announced a record $4.9 million in Nonprofit Security Grants to 34 nonprofit organizations across North Jersey. The grantees — a mix of synagogues, mosques, churches, religious schools, and religious community centers — will use their Nonprofit Security Grants to invest in physical protections, security technology, and training to keep their communities safe.
26 of the 34 grantees received the maximum Nonprofit Security Grant: $150,000. Since entering office, Gottheimer has delivered more than $15.2 million in Nonprofit Security Grants to the Fifth District.
“Every day in Congress, I strive to protect our Jersey values, the first of which is freedom: freedom to live, learn, and worship however you choose; freedom from fear, bigotry, or hate. That’s what Nonprofit Security Grants are all about,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “To help combat hate, since I was sworn in, I’ve been focused on clawing millions of federal dollars from Washington back to North Jersey through the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, now totaling $15.2 million. And this year was historic. I’m incredibly honored to announce that we are clawing back more forour communities this year than any prior year in my tenure.”
