WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, April 27, 2023, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) commemorated the 70th anniversary of the U.S.-South Korea alliance and joined a joint session of Congress with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol. New Jersey Assemblywoman Ellen Park (LD-37), the first Korean woman elected to the New Jersey legislature, joined Gottheimer as his special guest.

“Today, we commemorate the historic seventy-year-long U.S.-South Korean partnership and celebrate our proud Korean American community who work every day to make the Fifth District and our nation an even better place to live, raise our families, and do business,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5), an Associate Member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC). “It’s critical that our nations continue working together to curb growing aggression from China and North Korea, and reaffirm our shared commitment to democracy and peace.”

Gottheimer continued, “Also, with hate crimes and violent, race-based attacks continuing to rise, we must also work with our Korean American residents and small business owners to ensure that they never feel like their voices aren’t heard, that we’re standing up to fight crime and hate, that we’re supporting law enforcement, and that we’re keeping all our communities safe.”
