MAHWAH, NJ — Today, June 17, 2022, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) joined local elected officials, Volvo employees, and CEO of Volvo Car USA Anders Gustafsson to celebrate the groundbreaking of Volvo’s new state-of-the-art electric vehicle technical and training facility in Mahwah and the installation of 50 new electric vehicle chargers. This is a big win for North Jersey’s economy, the environment, and families.

The new facility will serve as Volvo’s electric vehicle training hub for the entire Western Hemisphere, creating hundreds of jobs over the coming years, supporting the local economy, and helping fight against climate change. The facility will be LEED Gold certified and feature solar panels and a high-efficiency HVAC system.

“To make sure North Jersey is ready to tackle future energy needs, I’ve been laser-focused on setting up access to clean, renewable energy systems, as well as a reliable and efficient EV charging infrastructure. That’s why I fought to pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill and bring thousands of EV chargers to Jersey, and why I’m excited to help Volvo Cars break ground on fifty new EV chargers and a new technical training facility,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “With this new investment in North Jersey, hundreds of jobs will be created in our community over the coming years, helping Jersey residents and our local economy.  It will make North Jersey the center of Volvo’s EV training for the entire Western Hemisphere.”

In February, Gottheimer announced that New Jersey will claw back $104 million and $2.5 billion in available grants from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill — which he helped shape and pass — to install thousands of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations along key roads and highways, ensuring New Jersey is able to provide reliable and clean charging for the rapidly increasing EV market, cut pollution, protect our clean air, and create jobs.

Gottheimer was joined today by Mahwah Mayor James Wysocki, Mahwah Council President David May, CEO of Volvo Car USA Anders Gustafsson, and Volvo employees.
