WASHINGTON, D.C. — During Filipino American History Month, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) announced that he is helping lead a bipartisan resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives (H. RES. 1449) to honor the tremendous and increasing contributions of Filipino Americans to our country in all areas including music, dance, literature, education, health care, business, journalism, sports, fashion, politics, government, science, technology, the fine arts, and other fields.

To celebrate Filipino American History Month, Gottheimer joined North Jersey community members and took part in the first annual Barrio Fest in Bergenfield, honoring and celebrating the North Jersey Filipino American community with food, music, performances, and more.

“I’m incredibly proud to be an original cosponsor of bipartisan legislation in the House of Representatives to recognize the tremendous and increasing contributions Filipino Americans have made to our country and North Jersey communities. From music to literature, education, business, military service, and so much more, we must never forget their achievements and the positive impacts they contribute each and every day,” said U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5).

Since their initial settlement in the United States, our Filipino American community has grown to approximately 4.4 million. Filipinos have also proudly served in the United States Armed Forces since the Civil War. 260,000 Filipino veterans who fought for the U.S. military during World War II were honored with the Congressional Gold Medal for their service
