NORTH JERSEY — U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) brought together North Jersey mayors for a roundtable, to discuss work in Congress and back at home to help lower taxes, claw more federal tax dollars back to North Jersey communities, first responders, and community organizations, and to improve North Jersey’s infrastructure and climate resiliency.
“I appreciate all of the mayors for joining my roundtable to share their ideas and discuss how we can solve problems together for North Jersey communities,” said Congressman Gottheimer (NJ-5). “Whether it is clawing back more federal dollars away from Moocher States for our first responders, helping lower taxes for North Jersey families, or handling emergencies, I am grateful to work with such a committed and energetic group of mayors, local leaders, and first responders. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, I know that our communities are in good hands.”
Last month, Gottheimer announced that New Jersey’s Fifth District has now clawed 357% more federal tax dollars back from Washington and the Moocher States since he took office. For 2021 alone, the federal tax dollars clawed back amount to an average savings of more than $750 for each household in the Fifth District.
Through Gottheimer’s work with mayors, councils, first responders, and nonprofits, the Fifth District has realized a far better Return on Investment on the tax dollars North Jersey residents send to Washington every year.
Gottheimer highlighted successes across the Fifth District, particularly with the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG), the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant, the LESO 1033 excess resources program, USDA Rural Development (RD) grants, Community Oriented Policing Services Program (COPS), and FEMA Non-Profit Security Grant program (NSGP).
