FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ — Last night, on Sunday, November 5, 2023, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) held a second community discussion on the events unfolding in Israel, Gaza, across the Middle East, and at home, encouraging dialogue and answering questions about the war, public safety, and the rise in antisemitism and Islamophobia. The discussion occurred at Gottheimer’s own congregation, Barnert Temple. Gottheimer took questions from the crowd and discussed how the recent events have a strong impact on all Americans. More than 130 residents joined to listen and ask questions.

Gottheimer’s first community discussion on the war in Israel and the events unfolding in the Middle East occurred in Tenafly on October 29, 2023.

Video of Gottheimer’s remarks can be found here.

“Across our communities, states, and nation, the events unfolding in Israel and Gaza, and the broader Middle East, have a strong impact on all Americans. Jews, Muslims, and Christians at home and around the world are suffering. It’s moments like this where we need to come together. We need to show the world, the country, and the state how strong we are. I want you to know how much I appreciate you. I appreciate all the outreach you’ve given to me, because as you know, these are tough times not just here — they’re tough times in Washington, they’re tough times with some of my colleagues. It’s my job to have your backs, but from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you for always having my back,”,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer, the only Jewish Member of the New Jersey Congressional delegation. “We need to focus on getting all of the hostages home, crushing Hamas terrorists, ensuring humanitarian aid gets to innocent Palestinian civilians being used by Hamas as human shields.”

The event was moderated by Rabbi Rachel Steiner.
