NORTH JERSEY — This week, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5), a member of the House Financial Services Committee, hosted a Taxpayer Resource Seminar with the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) to answer tax filing questions from North Jersey residents ahead of Tax Day.

“Tax Day is coming up and there’s no better time to get help with your taxes than right now,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “Like most folks, I think taxes are far too high in Jersey. And they should be lower to make life more affordable for folks and for our small businesses. I’ve been working overtime on this since the day I was elected. On top of that, the IRS is still grappling with a massive backlog of unprocessed tax returns, keeping dollars out of the pockets of hardworking families. That’s why I announced a Taxpayer Action Plan which includes helping cut the bureaucratic red tape at the IRS. Additionally, my team and I work every day to get our residents’ tax refunds back to Jersey families.”
Over the past two years alone, Gottheimer and his constituent services team have helped more than 500 constituents fight the IRS, helped more than 300 veterans get access to their VA benefits, helped more than 780 Fifth District seniors access their Social Security checks, helped get 60 constituents back home from being stranded overseas, and helped more than 4,100 constituents get their unemployment benefits.
Last year, Gottheimer sounded the alarm on the massive backlog of tax returns keeping dollars out of the pockets of hardworking families in North Jersey and nationwide. Gottheimer announced a Taxpayer Action Plan to help cut the bureaucratic red tape at the IRS and how he and his team have clawed back $1.2 million in tax refunds for North Jersey families in the prior two years.
