WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) joined the Korean American Grassroots Conference to celebrate the Korean American community and the U.S.-Korea relationship.

“KAGC is a pillar in our community. I can’t thank you all enough for always lending a helping hand and ensuring Korean American voices are heard here in Washington and across the country, including in North Jersey,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5), an Associate Member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC). “The Korean American community represents what makes our state and country great — incredible local leaders, small business owners, and residents, who all work day in and day out to make North Jersey an even better place to live, raise our families, and do business. In fact, this year, we’re celebrating 120 years since the first Korean immigrants came to the United States.”

In May, Gottheimer helped pass the bipartisan Korean American VALOR Act in the House of Representatives which will allow thousands of South Korean immigrants who served in the armed forces of the Republic of Korea alongside Americans during the Vietnam War and have since become naturalized U.S. citizens to be eligible for health care services through the Department of Veterans Affairs.

In January, Gottheimer helped introduce a bipartisan resolution calling on the United States to designate January 13, 2023 as Korean American Day.

Earlier this year, Gottheimer honored Korean American Day and North Jersey’s proud Korean American community with the Korean American Grassroots Conference (KAGC) on Capitol Hill.

Gottheimer has also worked with the Korean American community and business leaders from North Jersey, including representatives from KAGC, to support small businesses, lower taxes, keep communities safe, help make life more affordable, and combat hate against the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community.

Gottheimer was joined by Congresswoman Young Kim (CA-40), KAGC Founder and President Mr. Dongsuk Kim, KAGC Executive Director Mr. Wonseok Song, and Korean Ambassador to the United States Mr. Hyung-dong Cho.
