NEW JERSEY/NEW YORK — Today, October 23, 2024, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) met with key leaders from Amtrak, NJ TRANSIT, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), and New Jersey Congressional delegation members to discuss issues impacting hardworking Jersey commuters, including what the federal government can do to help solve endless delays. Gottheimer also called for new additional federal investments to speed up critical fixes for NJ TRANSIT and Amtrak infrastructure improvements.
The tour began at Moynihan Train Hall in New York City and included stops in Newark and New Brunswick. Key projects showcased during the tour included the Hudson Tunnel Project, Portal North Bridge, Penn Station Capacity Expansion, the Sawtooth Bridges Replacement, and the Harrison Fourth Track.
Gottheimer is working on the All Aboard Act, which includes a Rail Passengers Bill of Rights to ensure hardworking commuters are compensated for significant delays or cancellations, protecting their wallets and creating accountability.
“When our trains aren’t functioning properly, it’s not just a headache for commuters, it takes money right out of their pocketbooks. We must invest more to fix this now,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “I will always fight to make life more affordable for commuters and ensure they can show up to work, see loved ones, and provide for their families.“
