DEMAREST, NJ — U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) spoke to more than 300 students at Demarest Middle School about his path to public service, his work in Congress, and his view on policy issues affecting New Jersey’s youth like mental health services and TikTok.
“Talking to students like you, Jersey’s future leaders and changemakers, is one of the best parts of my job. And, I promise you, the quality education that you’re getting here in Demarest from incredible educators will help you grow into those leaders,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “I always draw upon a quote from one of New Jersey’s own, Albert Einstein: ‘Education is not the learning of facts, but training the mind to think.’ You’re learning how to speak up about issues that you care about, and I can’t stress how important that is.”
Congressman Gottheimer is committed to helping Jersey students thrive. So far this school year, he has announced a new school hunger strategy and launched a free books program to solve Jersey’s literacy gap.
Congressman Gottheimer was joined by Northern Valley School Systems Superintendent Michael Fox, Demarest Councilman Adam Collins, Demarest Councilman David Jiang, and Demarest Middle School educators and students.
