RELEASE: Gottheimer Statement on Charges Brought Against Rep. LaMonica McIver

NORTH JERSEY — Today, May 19, 2025, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) released the following statement after the Department of Justice (DOJ) brought charges against Congresswoman LaMonica McIver: 

“This couldn’t be more clear: Members of Congress have a Constitutional responsibility to conduct oversight over federal agencies. The Trump Administration is blatantly interfering with that authority to further its extreme political agenda.

The judicial system must reject any attempt to weaponize justice against political opponents — including my colleague, Congresswoman McIver.”
