NORTH JERSEY — Today, March 25, 2024, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) released the following statement on the latest Congestion Tax announcements from the MTA:

“After countless hours of testimony from the public begging the MTA for relief from their outrageous Congestion Tax, today’s news makes it clear that New York just doesn’t care about hardworking commuters from their state or mine. They just want to take hard-earned dollars from Jersey families, including nurses, teachers, law enforcement, labor, you name it!

The MTA has wasted billions of taxpayer dollars and is now desperately whacking hardworking Jersey residents to solve their repeated budget failures. Instead of blaming others, New York and the MTA should take a long hard look in the mirror and fix their own problems.”

The MTA has fewer than 30 days to respond to Gottheimer’s FOIL request for the MTA to provide any emails and documents containing the data, calculations, and discussions that went into their Congestion Tax revenue projections.
