RELEASE: Gottheimer Statement on NJ Transit Strike
NORTH JERSEY — Today, May 16, 2025, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) released the following statement in response to the NJ Transit rail strike:
“Hundreds of thousands of riders rely on NJ Transit every day to get to work, support our local economy, and see friends and family. Now, with no agreement reached, this strike will grind our trains to a halt, deliver a devastating blow to our economy, and leave millions of commuters stranded. That’s something Jersey simply can’t afford.
We must stand with the hardworking men and women who keep our transit system running — they deserve good pay and an honest contract.
The best way forward for Jersey is for both sides to stay at the table and hammer out a solution that works for workers, riders, and our state. I’m calling on both sides to stay at the table 24/7 until a deal is done. All parties need to keep negotiating day and night — all of this is too important to walk away.
I’m having active conversations with those involved in the negotiations and remain hopeful that we can reach a solution that guarantees good wages, protects workers, and keeps our trains moving. I know we can get this done — and we must. Jersey families are counting on it.”
