RELEASE: Gottheimer Statement on Republican’s Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill
Gottheimer’s Amendments Expedite Bergen-Hudson Light Rail and Stop New York’s $23/Day Congestion Tax
WASHINGTON D.C. — Today, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer released the following statement after Republicans failed to adopt his amendments to stop New York’s $23/day Congestion Tax. The bill text, however, included his amendment to move forward with the Bergen-Hudson Light Rail.
“I was pleased to see Republicans adopt my amendment to expedite approval of the Bergen-Hudson Light Rail expansion because we need to cut commutes and pollution, and create jobs. For every $1 we invest in infrastructure, there’s more than $3 of economic output.
However, not only did the Republicans refuse to adopt my amendments to put a stop to New York’s commuter-crushing, cancer-causing, $23/day Congestion Tax, their legislation will slash investments for Jersey infrastructure projects, including the critical Gateway Project Gateway Train Tunnel between New York and New Jersey, and Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor. It will also cut programs that help prevent lead in our air and water.
I cannot vote for legislation that will hurt Jersey’s public transportation and infrastructure, and pollute our families’ air and drinking water.”
