RELEASE: Gottheimer Statement on the Anti-Defamation League’s 2024 Audit Showing Worst Year Ever for Antisemitic Incidents
NEW JERSEY — Today, April 22, 2025, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5), the only Jewish member of the New Jersey congressional delegation, released the following statement regarding the Anti-Defamation League’s (ADL) 2024 Audit of Antisemitic Incidents:
“The depressing and despicable surge in antisemitism across New Jersey and our country should sound an alarm for every single American. As we’ve seen time and time again, the safety and security of our Jewish families and communities are on the line.
We cannot sit idly by while individuals in politics, pop culture, or sports openly spew antisemitic tropes and hatred — the magnitude of this crisis demands real action. That’s why I’m continuing fighting to pass my bipartisan Antisemitism Awareness Act to ensure our children can attend schools and universities without fear of intimidation, threats, and violence.
We cannot address this crisis alone. It will take all of us — coming together as a community — to defeat antisemitism and hatred in all of its forms. Here in the greatest country in the world, I believe religious freedom will win and antisemitism and hate will lose.”

Last year was the worst year for antisemitic incidents since ADL began recording more than four decades ago — a 5% increase from the previous year and a 344% increase over the past five years.
