RELEASE: Gottheimer Statement on Veterans Homes Agreement Between New Jersey and DOJ
NORTH JERSEY — Today, Saturday, October 5, 2024, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) released the following statement on the latest developments between New Jersey and the Department of Justice regarding New Jersey’s Veterans Homes:
“Since I first heard from my constituents about the conditions at the home, I have been fighting for better conditions and oversight for our veterans and their families. I was briefed by the New Jersey Department of Military of Veterans Affairs on the latest developments and will continue to push for answers and clarity until the safety of our veterans is guaranteed. What happened at New Jersey’s Veterans Homes during the COVID-19 pandemic can never happen again. I am glad to see New Jersey and the Department of Justice cooperating and taking steps to help ensure that.
The handling of the Paramus Veterans Home during the COVID-19 pandemic is one of the greatest tragedies New Jersey has ever witnessed. These men and women bravely served our country and made sacrifices, so that we can live freely and safely. In return, careless negligence took their lives, and destroyed families.”
