WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tonight, Thursday, October 12, 2023, U.S. Representatives Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-25), and Leader Hakeem Jefferies (NY-8) led a bipartisan vigil on the steps of the U.S. Capitol to remember the innocent lives lost in Israel at the hands of Hamas terrorists. More than 1,200 Israelis and 27 Americans have been killed, 150 taken hostage, including Americans, and thousands more injured by radical Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists.
House Chaplain Reverend Dr. Margaret Grun Kibben led the Members of Congress in prayer, followed by a moment of silence, and Representative Ann Wagner (MO-2) gave remarks.
Earlier this week, Gottheimer helped introduce the bipartisan “Operation Swords of Iron” Iron Dome Supplemental Appropriations Act in the House to appropriate $2 billion for Israel’s Iron Dome defense system.
Video of the vigil can be found and downloaded here.
