WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Friday, December 6, 2024, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bipartisan amendment authored by U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer, as part of H.R. 5349, requiring the Victims of CommunismMemorial Foundation to ensure our students are taught about the government of China’s ongoing anti-democratic values, human rights abuses, and threats to democracy. The bill passed by a vote of 327-62.

“This vote demonstrated our nation’s dedication to defending our democratic values and fighting back against the Chinese Communist Party — our known adversary. I am glad my colleagues came together, across the aisle, to pass this critical piece of legislation to counter China’s influence on our nation,” said Congressman Gottheimer (NJ-5), a member of the House Intelligence Committee.

Representative Kathy Manning (NC-06) advocated for the amendment’s passage on the House floor.
