Rep. Gottheimer Statement on HR 3922: Would Raise Taxes, Gut Medicare, and Raise Prescription Drug Prices

“Today, I voted no on HR 3922 for a simple reason: it will raise taxes on seniors, cut Medicare protections, and raise prescription drug prices. This legislation is nothing but a political ploy. It would increase Medicare costs on seniors, in some cases, as much as 100% of their premiums. Seniors spend their lifetimes paying into Medicare; it’s a critical compact that we can’t just gut as they head into their retirement.

Voting for this bill would hurt children’s and would jack up taxes on seniors in their twilight years. I refuse to do that.

I look forward to working with the Senate on a sensible bill that will genuinely help children and community health centers, while still maintaining respect and decency for New Jersey seniors.

There’s a reason why the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs and other children’s health groups have already come out against this legislation. Even they recognize the damage this bill does to families all across the country.”
