STATEMENT: Gottheimer Fighting to Boost Funding to Protect Jewish Community
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, June 4, 2025, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) released the following statement calling for a boost in funding to protect the Jewish community from acts of violence:
“In the wake of two horrific antisemitic attacks on the Jewish community in less than two weeks, there is an urgent need for additional federal security assistance. In light of the wholly insufficient budget request from the Trump Administration, I am calling on Congress to boost funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NPSG) funding to ensure Jewish families across the country can live and worship without fear of violence.
Given that fewer than half of applicants received funding in the past, it is critical that Congress significantly increase funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program to $500 million. We must also increase the FBI’s domestic terrorism and hate crimes programs, and grant programs for local law enforcement to combat antisemitism and acts of hate.
From bollards to prevent vehicular attacks, reinforced doors to keep intruders out, to the hiring of additional security personnel, Jewish and other faith-based communities need more protection — now. The threats are rising, and we must ensure communities have the resources to protect our families.”
Last week, Reps. Gottheimer and Moskowitz led 46 lawmakers in a letter to President Trump urging him to boost security funding for Jewish communities, including for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program.
