WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, May 2, 2026, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) released the following statement:

“The Fifth Circuit’s reckless decision to block the mailing of mifepristone, a safe, FDA-approved medication that millions of women rely on, has turned back the clock on progress and ripped away the rights of millions across the country to make personal and private medical decisions. This ruling ignores decades of science and will force women, especially those in underserved and rural communities, to travel long distances or go without care altogether.

Let’s be clear: without access to safe and legal reproductive healthcare, women will die. I will always oppose any attempt by those sitting on the bench or sitting in Washington who want to roll back the clock on the right to choose and stand between a woman, her doctor, and her faith when making personal healthcare decisions. We need to stop the far-right extremist war on women’s healthcare and protect access to safe, legal reproductive care, no matter where someone lives. As a proud member of the Reproductive Freedom Caucus, I’ll keep fighting to ensure every woman has the freedom to make her own health care decisions without government overreach.”
