LIVINGSTON, N.J. — U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) held a third community discussion on the events unfolding in Israel, Gaza, across the Middle East, and at home, encouraging dialogue and answering questions about the war, public safety, and the rise in antisemitism and Islamophobia. The discussion was hosted by Temple Beth Shalom in Livingston. Gottheimer took questions from the crowd and discussed how the recent events have a strong impact on all Americans. More than 70 residents joined to listen and ask questions.
Gottheimer’s first community discussion on the war in Israel and the events unfolding in the Middle East occurred in Tenafly on October 29, 2023. The second community discussion occurred in Franklin Lakes on November 5, 2023.
“These are very tough times to come together, but there’s no room I’d rather be in more. I think we all need each other now more than ever,” said U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5), the only Jewish Member of the New Jersey Congressional delegation. “Being a Jewish person is not always easy day-to-day in this country. But after October 7, I looked around and realized there are a lot of people getting my back, and my number one job right now is to make sure I get everyone else’s back. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you for always having my back.”
The event was moderated by Rabbi Simeon Cohen.
