$30,000+ investment will increase Sussex Board of Elections on-site security, improve monitoring systems

NEWTON, NJ – New Jersey’s Fifth Congressional District is continuing to claw more federal dollars back to our communities away from the Moocher States, to help improve North Jersey’s return on investment. Sussex County has clawed back more than $30,000 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to boost security for the County’s Board of Elections.

“Voting is at the core of our democracy. We must do everything we can do protect it. I’m proud that we’re continuing to claw more of our federal tax dollars back to North Jersey from the Moocher States and ensure our elections are protected,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “It’s time more resources came back to New Jersey to help our own state and town budgets, cut our property taxes, and help our families.”

The $32,000 investment from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), an essential agency within DHS, will cover the costs of a new door, key card locks, and a closed-circuit monitoring system. A security upgrade survey conducted by the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness recently recommended reconfigurations and upgrades to current security.
