On Monday, March 9, 2020, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) released the following statement following the State of New Jersey declaring a public health state of emergency due to the coronavirus:

“Today, New Jersey declared a state of emergency, as there are currently 11 presumed positive cases of coronavirus in our state. It is critical that New Jersey continue working with our hospitals, health facilities, frontline medical professionals, communities, and the federal government to treat patients afflicted with this virus, to help make sure this outbreak is contained, and to keep our residents safe. I’ve been working closely and remain in close communication with North Jersey’s hospitals and the Governor’s office to address what resources our providers, counties, and state need to contain the outbreak.”

In recent weeks, Gottheimer has coordinated regular communication with North Jersey’s hospitals, including daily coordination calls, to help combat the outbreak of coronavirus.

Last week, Gottheimer voted to pass bipartisan legislation to immediately address the coronavirus outbreak. This bill provides emergency funding for a robust response to the crisis, including support for state and local health agencies, vaccine and treatment development, and loans for affected small businesses. Following passage in the Senate, the President signed this legislation into law last Friday.
