TEANECK, NJ — U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer held a fifth community discussion at Congregation Bnai Yeshurun. Gottheimer dialogued with Rabbi Elliot Schrier about rising antisemitism — online, on campuses, and in North Jersey communities — and his work to combat it. During the event, Congressman Gottheimer highlighted the record $4.8 million in Nonprofit Security Grants that he clawed back this year for North Jersey and his recent work to pass the bipartisan Antisemitism Awareness Act, which will give the Department of Education a clear framework to investigate antisemitism on campus.
“I want to assure you: I’ve got your back in Washington,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5), the only Jewish member of the New Jersey Congressional delegation. “I will always stand up to bigotry in all forms and fight hard to protect our core Jersey value of freedom: freedom from fear, freedom from hate, and freedom to worship, live, and learn however you so choose.”
Gottheimer’s first community discussion on the war in Israel and the events unfolding in the Middle East occurred in Tenafly in October 2023. The second community discussion occurred in Franklin Lakes in November 2023. The third community discussion occurred in Livingston in February 2024. The fourth community discussion occurred in Bloomfield in April 2024.
